Autumn Equinox marks the beginning of a powerful time for balance, reflection, and setting intentions…
Hi, all! Hazel’s mom here, with mostly good news, but a little bad news and a request for your help.
The good news is, Hazel’s health is improving! She is now able to be up out of bed for at least part of every day, and most of some days.
She still has pain, but increased mobility is life-changing. She is up out of bed for part of most days, to eat at the table, enjoy the garden, and even take a shower once each week or two. With her new level of mobility, Hazel has new goals. She hopes to be able to go to her doctor in person, get labs done, and see the dentist for the first time in years. She also hopes to take on personal admin tasks, like doing her own banking online. Only 13 years old when she fell ill, she was far too sick ever since to manage those things. I’ve been her representative for everything Paperwork.
This month, she turned 31. Imagine turning 31 with goals like, Go To the Dentist Again, or, Manage Banking. Sounds dreary, compared to goals of healthy 31-year-olds. But for a 31-year-old who has been terribly sick for over 17 years, it’s kinda thrilling. Plus she has some fun creative goals--more on that below. Her recent steps toward independence have included online shopping and library book requests. This is huge! It means making her own choices, and requires screen time and internet navigation, which were impossible for her, for that brings us to our request. Hazel needs contributions. You can Donate now, but to learn why we ask for your help, read on.
Hazel needs a new computer. She has been using our 2011 iMac, whose 21.5” screen also serves as our video watching screen. We got it used, but it was the family computer for years. Now it’s on its last legs and the time has come to replace it. Hazel needs her own computer, so she can have it in her own room where she can work in peace. And she needs a computer that can handle graphics and audio files. That’s because of the fun creative goals I mentioned. She wants to do creative work with music and graphics, and for that, the basic tool is going to be a decent, recent computer.
Can you help Hazel upgrade? Your contribution, whether it’s $5, or $50, or more, will make her ongoing, expanding life not only possible, but rewarding. After years of quietly meditating in a dim room just to survive crushing pain, she’s ready for so much more.
A friend asked me, “Why don’t your sisters help?” I wish she had relatives who were able to help, but sadly she hasn’t. She’s completely on her own, aside from me, and unfortunately I won’t last forever. I’m thrilled to see her health improving and her prospects brightening! But she needs to reach out to a wider world. She needs to reach out to you. She hates to have to ask, but her growing independence, her ability to connect, communicate and socialize, be creative, and handle the responsibilities of life, all hinge on her being able to connect to the internet and access resources.
So please, click that Donate link and give what you can. Please give as Family and Friends, so PayPal won’t charge a fee, and your entire donation will go to help Hazel towards independent living, with a workable computer. Thank you so much for caring!
